VCI, ALU barrier + desiccants , Desiccants

Damages that occurs during transportation are responsible for very high costs.Corrosion is one of the damages and humidity is the primary cause of corrosion. For certain machinery and sensitive equipment, even exposure to low levels of moisture is suffiecient to cause expensive deterioration in a short period of time.Thus proper packing is very important to minimize the damages as well as to reduce the environment impact, since traditional protection materials against corrosion such as oil, grease or paint are time and labour intensive and not environmentally friendly. 


VCI
A Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI), also sometimes called Vapour Phase Inhibitor (VPI), is a method of corrosion protection.
The inhibiting process begins when the protective vapours disseminate in an enclosed space (through vaporisation) where a thin layer is created on the metalsurface. The protection remains as long as the product is in the enclosed space.

VCI technology is incorporated in different materials:
  • Polyethylene film
  • Foam pieces
  • Paper and corrugated
  • Powder and tablets
  • Liquids (oil-based, water-based, Soya-based)
  • Emitters
  • Laminated products

Benefits of VCI products:  
  • Multi metal corrosion protection: all metals are protected
  • Keeps during minimum 2 years an effective protection against corrosion. VCI can be used for storage and long distance transport purposes
  • Can be applied as a normal packaging
  • So many different products and solutions available that almost each requested protection can be done: total corrosion solution
  • Also protect places that are difficult to reach (complex machinery)
  • Safe to use (recyclable, environmentally safe)
  • Approved by NATO and other important companies
  • Some products are even FDA approved
  • Do not affect the metal : after unpacking the VCI layer simply evaporates in the air.
  • Opening and re-closing of the packaging does not affect the VCI functioning
  • No extra handling after use (the VCI layer disappears once the active VCI source around the metal is taken away) 

 

ALU barrier + desiccants  

Another most effective way to eliminate the threat of humidity is to use a moisture barrier bag. Bags are produced in different materials, which literally will keep moisture out. In addition to use only a moisture barrier bag, the use of desiccant can be an extremely good combition. A decisccant placed inside a barrier  bag can eliminate any existing moisture and absorb the infinitesimal amount of humidity that may penetrate the barrier over time.
It is important to note that most barrier materials and desiccant are different, but can be classified and UPP has excessive know how and is able to offer a broad range of products.
